Import from Other Apps

Bring existing repositories, workspace names, archive state, skills, and reviewed configuration into Agentastic.

View as Markdown

Choose File > Import from Other Apps…, or use the import button on the welcome screen or under Settings > Workspaces. Agentastic scans supported local app data and shows a review before applying changes.

What comes across#

SourceDiscovery and workspace state
CodexSaved repositories, worktree ownership, conversation names, pins, and explicit archive flags
Claude Code and Claude DesktopKnown repositories, local Desktop worktrees and archive flags, CLI-managed worktrees, and available CLI session references
ConductorLocal repositories and workspaces, names, pins, and explicit archive state
Superset / ParadevLocal repositories and workspaces from supported legacy and current databases
OrcaLocal repositories and workspace metadata from supported profiles
HerdrRepositories and open workspace metadata; closing a workspace is not treated as archiving it

Missing repositories are not recreated. Existing repositories and checkouts are opened in place, not copied. Hidden repository suggestions are unchecked by default; Agentastic does not create a separate archived-repository record.

Archive safely#

A worktree is marked archived only when its source metadata explicitly supports that decision. If several conversations reference it, an active conversation keeps it active. Codex's checkout ownership metadata takes precedence over a conversation's current working directory.

Uncertain or missing lifecycle information appears under Needs review, not Archived. Select such a workspace in the import review, or choose Keep in Agentastic in the repository sidebar, to keep it locally managed.

The import does not execute archive scripts, terminate terminals, delete checkouts, or change the source app's workspace state. Main, current, locked, and running workspaces are protected from new imported archives. Existing local names and archive choices are preserved.

Follow future workspaces#

Each source has a Follow new workspaces checkbox. Review changes take effect only when you choose Bring it over. Manage saved choices later under Settings > Workspaces > Import.

Following rechecks source metadata when local repositories refresh. Manual changes in Agentastic take priority. Uncheck a known workspace during import to exclude it from automatic following. Turning following off stops future reconciliation; it does not discard previously imported values.

Portable configuration#

The review can also offer:

  • Skills: copies the complete skill folder into your library with its origin recorded. Existing skills are not overwritten, and identical installed content is skipped. Enabled Claude plugins can contribute their declared skills and MCP servers when an exact installed version is known.
  • MCP servers: explicitly selected connections become a personal plugin that requires activation. Connection values are stored in Keychain. Import does not connect to a server.
  • Setup, archive, and run commands: supported repository configuration is previewed and unchecked by default. Approved commands are translated into native configuration and run tasks without executing them during import. Existing native configuration is not overwritten. Unsupported fields produce warnings.
  • Leftover integration hooks: only recognized app-owned wrappers are offered for explicit removal. Cleanup makes a protected backup and leaves unrelated hooks untouched. Do not remove a hook if you still need that integration in the other app.

Authentication, trust grants, permission bypasses, and arbitrary agent hooks are not migrated. Session resume is a separate, explicit action; importing never starts an agent.

Whole plugins are not imported: commands, subagents, app integrations, LSP declarations, and hooks stay behind. A Codex plugin cache alone is not proof of an active installed version, so those cached plugins are skipped with a review note. Portable standalone Codex skills and supported MCP configuration can still be imported.

New local worktrees support reviewed setup configuration and .worktreeinclude patterns for Git-ignored files. Compatibility environment variables include Conductor and Superset aliases and a persistent ten-port block per worktree. Port allocation does not reserve sockets or migrate source-specific named port declarations.

Undo#

Use Undo Import in the review window to revert the latest import. Undo survives restarting Agentastic and only restores metadata or removes generated files that still match the imported values. Later edits are kept. Hook cleanup can restore its exact backup if the configuration has not subsequently changed.

Repositories opened during import remain open after undo. Source configuration is otherwise read-only; approved hook cleanup is the exception.
